EFFECTS OF THE NEW FACE MASK RULES IN SPAIN
Dear clients and readers,
We are writing to inform you that the Spanish government has recently passed a controversial law which from Tuesday, March 30th, 2021, makes face masks now mandatory in all outdoor settings, including beaches, swimming pools, and sports in nature, whereas previously people could remove them as long as they kept their distance.
TIGHTENING OF NEW MASK REGULATION
1. The new decree essentially means that from now on, regardless of the safety distance; people over six years of age and older are obliged to use face masks in the following situations:
a) On public roads, in open-air spaces, and in any closed space of public use or open to the public.
b) In the means of air, sea, bus; or rail transport, as well as in the complementary public and private transport of passengers in vehicles of up to nine seats, including the driver; if the occupants of the tourism vehicles do not live at the same address. In the case of passengers on ships and boats, it will not be necessary to use masks when they are inside their cabin.
EXCEPTIONS TO THE NEW REGULATION
2. The obligation contained in the previous section 1 shall not be enforceable for people who present some type of illness or respiratory difficulty that may be aggravated because of the use of the mask or that; due to their disability or dependency, they do not have the autonomy to remove the mask or have altered conduct that makes its use unfeasible.
Neither will it be enforceable in the case of individual sport exercise in the open air; nor in cases of force majeure or situation of necessity or when; by nature of the activity itself, the use of the mask is incompatible, in accordance with the indications of the health authorities.
However, the law remains silent as to whether wearing a face mask while food and drink aren’t being consumed at a bar or restaurant terrace may be allowed or not.
CONCLUSION
In short, remember even if you’re sunbathing on a beach 150 metres away from the closest person or if you’re walking alone in the mountains, you must wear your mask.
However, you will be surprisingly exempted to wear one, for example, when riding on a bike or going for a run in the street, as long as you’re wearing sports clothes. Absolutely crazy.
No wonder why an increasing number of tourists have already cancelled their holidays to Spain as a result of this new contradictory and counterproductive new mask outdoor legislation.
